Stationary Engine Mechanic

About the Role
The Stationary Engine Mechanic will perform operational work in a central heating and cooling plant or central heating plant in the National Capital Area and reports to the 1st Class Stationary Engineer.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain various registered central heating and cooling plants, including boilers, chillers, generators, and distribution systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot mechanical equipment and water samples to ensure the reliability of plant equipment.
- Start up and shut down large oil and gas fired boilers and generators, adjust controls, and remove and replace parts as needed.
- Conduct standardized tests to determine chemical concentrations in water and use a variety of hand and power tools in the work.
- Work with a variety of computer software programs and have significant knowledge of the operation of heating and cooling plant equipment and systems.
- Prepare work orders and documents, compile operational data for monthly reports, and write reports with recommendations.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of experience at the Class 3 level.
- 3rd class Stationary Engineer certification.
- General knowledge of federal and provincial regulations related to environmental standards and occupational health and safety in plant operations.
- Manual dexterity to repair and overhaul operating plant and extensive distribution systems equipment.
- Written and verbal communication skills to record information and describe mechanical problems to colleagues.
