Labour Relations Specialist

The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada is seeking a skilled Labour Relations Specialist to join their team in Ottawa. As a key member of the National Capital Region office, this individual will provide labour relations representation and advice to the organization on Institute-wide matters and to members on matters of individual and collective representation.
Responsibilities:- Represent the Institute and support members, groups of members, and stewards in accordance with all applicable federal and provincial legislation, collective agreements, policies, directives, and guidelines, and employment benefits plans.
- Advise and represent the Institute and members in formal and informal labour relations issues and processes including third party tribunals, arbitration, grievances, mediation, facilitation, complaints, and conflict coaching.
- Analyze and research jurisprudence, applicable legislation, employer policies, and collective agreements.
- Conduct or assist in training sessions and promote positive communication, information sharing, and best practices to develop and maintain a qualified steward network.
- Ensure all relevant member case information is created, updated, and maintained in the Institute's data management systems.
- Contribute to corporate knowledge and communications by providing articles, case summaries, and other related reports with respect to labour relations matters.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary teams assigned to special projects and work collaboratively with employees in other sections.
- A university degree in industrial/labour relations, law, or a related discipline.
- Fluency in both official languages (French and English) is an asset.
- A thorough knowledge of the authorities governing employer/employee relations in the federal public service of Canada and other jurisdictions in which institute members are employed.
- Experience in the labour relations field, in handling complaints and grievances, interpreting collective agreements, and representing individuals before third parties such as arbitration boards.
The successful candidate can expect a competitive salary ranging from $108,929 to $136,161 per annum, plus benefits including health, dental, life insurance, and disability insurance, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
