THE ORGANIZATION: SCHOOL DISTRICT #68 (NANAIMO-LADYSMITH)

School District #68 (Nanaimo-Ladysmith) resides within the traditional territories of the Snuneymuxw, Snaw-Naw-As and Stz'uminus First Nations. The district provides a full range of programs from Kindergarten to Grade 12, in addition to programs for preschoolers and adult learners.

The district consists of 28 elementary schools, six secondary schools, one Distributed Learning School Island ConnectED (K-12), a Secondary Learning Alternatives School, and a strong international student program. The district is dedicated to creating a safe, caring and healthy learning and working environment that is inclusive of the diversity of their entire learning community. Indigenous partnerships continue to be a top priority for the district, along with a strong focus on truth and reconciliation.

THE OPPORTUNITY: CHIEF EDUCATION OFFICER

The Chief Education Officer (CEO) is the Chief Executive Officer of the District, reporting directly to the Board of Education, and is accountable to it for the conduct, operation, and results of the District. The CEO is entrusted with the responsibility of improving student achievement and ensuring that the organization, administration, supervision, and evaluation of all educational programs align with this mandate.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Leadership and District Culture: The CEO works collaboratively with the Board to develop a collective District vision, ensuring students are provided with a safe, caring, and inclusive environment.
  2. Policy and Governance: The CEO provides leadership to ensure compliance relating to governance, legislation, and policy.
  3. Communications and Community Relations: The CEO enhances relationships among all members of schools, the community, and the public.
  4. Organizational Leadership: The CEO leverages data for decision-making and ensures the overall fiscal health and compliance of the District.
  5. Leading Learning: The CEO creates conditions that allow for the development of practices that facilitate learning for each student.
  6. Leadership Development and Employee Engagement: The CEO sets the tone for the District as a learning organization, responsible for leadership development and succession planning.

Requirements

The CEO should be a humble and engaging leader with experience in public-education systems. They must possess an inclusive and transparent leadership style, and have the ability to lead diverse, high performing teams.

Required Qualifications:

  1. A minimum of a master's degree in a relevant discipline.
  2. District-level leadership and operational management experience in a public education system.
  3. Experience and interest in decolonization and working with Indigenous communities.
  4. Proven ability to build positive relationships with the Board of Education, community, and other partner groups.
  5. Experience in media relations, communication and public speaking.

Compensation Package

A competitive compensation package will be provided including an attractive base salary and excellent benefits. The salary range is $247,718 - $275,242.
