THE OPPORTUNITY: EXECUTIVE SUPERINTENDENT
The Executive Superintendent serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the District, directly accountable to the Board of Education for the conduct, operation, and outcomes of the District. All authority granted to District staff is exercised through the Executive Superintendent.
This role encompasses the responsibility of enhancing student achievement, ensuring that the organization, administration, supervision, and evaluation of all educational programs align with this mission. The Executive Superintendent is accountable to the Board, representing public trust, students, staff, and the communities served by public education. Additionally, the Executive Superintendent is responsible to the Minister of Education, ensuring compliance with all legal, fiscal, and regulatory requirements.

Leadership and District Culture
The Executive Superintendent collaborates with the Board to establish a collective vision for the District, reflecting shared values that shape the culture and focus on student learning. They ensure a safe, caring, and inclusive environment that promotes respectful and responsible behavior. The Executive Superintendent leads the strategic planning process, ensuring effective implementation and reporting to the Board.
The Executive Superintendent:
- Builds effective teams and networks that foster a culture of student engagement and well-being, valuing the diverse context of public education;
- Identifies priorities and formulates strategic plans, goals, and initiatives with staff and the community;
- Promotes the importance of understanding and celebrating school and community cultures;

- Encourages innovative practices and risk-taking while facilitating leadership development;
- Communicates the rationale for change and understands processes that lead to cultural shifts;

The Executive Superintendent provides leadership to ensure compliance with governance, legislation, and policy. They ensure adherence to the School Act and provide guidance to the Board to support their responsibilities as Trustees.
The Executive Superintendent:
- Assists the Board in developing, communicating, and implementing policies and procedures for efficient District operations;
- Provides information and advice to support the Board in fulfilling their duties;
- Ensures alignment of policies, legislation, and requirements with the District's vision and practices;
- Develops processes to support schools and District systems, procedures, and initiatives;
- Fosters positive working relationships between the Board and the Executive Superintendent.
As an advocate for public education, the Executive Superintendent strengthens relationships among all stakeholders, enhancing support for students through effective communication and community engagement.
The Executive Superintendent:
- Articulates the District's mission and priorities, communicating a vision for public education;
- Builds community support for District values, goals, and priorities;
- Collaborates closely with Indigenous partners to ensure the adoption of Indigenous perspectives in curriculum and processes;
- Identifies and addresses complex issues and emergent situations.
The Executive Superintendent utilizes data for informed decision-making, acquiring and allocating resources to ensure successful learning outcomes. They oversee financial planning and fiscal management, preparing the annual budget to reflect Board priorities.
The Executive Superintendent:
- Defines processes for data collection and analysis to inform decision-making;
- Implements and monitors change processes to enhance capacity for student service;
- Ensures compliance with regulations and codes for school operations;
- Maintains accurate fiscal reporting;
- Optimizes resources to effectively support student success;
- Utilizes technology to enhance administrative and support systems.
The Executive Superintendent creates conditions that facilitate learning, ensuring access to educational programs that meet individual student needs.
The Executive Superintendent:
- Ensures access to educational programs tailored to each student's learning needs;
- Commits to supporting Indigenous ways of being and learning;
- Identifies assessment practices that support instruction and evidence of student learning;
