THE ROLE: CHIEF EDUCATION OFFICER

The Chief Education Officer (CEO) serves as the principal executive of the organization, directly accountable to the Board of Education. This role is pivotal in overseeing the operations and strategic direction of the educational district, with a strong emphasis on enhancing student outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Organizational Culture
  • Fosters effective teams and networks that cultivate student engagement and well-being.
  • Identifies strategic priorities and formulates actionable plans in collaboration with staff and the community.
  • Employs innovative problem-solving techniques and research-based strategies to drive positive change.
  • Encourages innovative practices and risk-taking, facilitating professional growth and leadership development.
  • Communicates the rationale for organizational changes and understands the processes that facilitate cultural transformation.
  • Recognizes and promotes cultural competencies to enhance interactions with diverse populations.
Policy and Governance
  • Provides leadership to ensure adherence to governance, legislation, and policy frameworks.
  • Aligns policies with the organization's vision and operational practices.
  • Develops systems to support schools and district-wide initiatives.
  • Maintains strong working relationships between the Board and the CEO.
Communications and Community Engagement
  • Articulates the organization's mission and priorities, conveying a clear vision for public education.
  • Collaborates closely with Indigenous partners to incorporate Indigenous knowledge and perspectives.
  • Identifies and addresses complex issues and emerging challenges effectively.
Organizational Leadership
  • Establishes processes for data collection and analysis to inform decision-making.
  • Optimizes resources to promote student success.
  • Utilizes technology to enhance administrative functions and support systems.
Leading Learning
  • Ensures that all students have access to educational programs tailored to their individual learning needs.
  • Commits to supporting Indigenous ways of knowing and learning.
  • Creates opportunities for educators to engage in continuous learning and implement innovative practices.
Leadership Development and Employee Engagement
  • Establishes frameworks to support professional growth for district employees.
  • Enables the organization to attract, hire, and retain talented leaders.
  • Develops succession planning processes and strategies.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

The ideal candidate will be a humble and approachable leader with extensive experience in navigating the complexities of public education systems. Required qualifications include:

  • A minimum of a master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in district-level leadership and operational management within a public education context.
  • A demonstrated commitment to decolonization and collaboration with Indigenous communities.
  • Proven ability to lead diverse, high-performing teams.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with the Board of Education and the community.
