About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health and Safety Manager to join our team at School District #40 (New Westminster). As a key member of our organization, you will play a vital role in ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for our students and employees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety programs to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses.
  • Conduct risk assessments and analyze work environments to identify potential hazards and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Collaborate with senior management and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and corporate standards.
  • Represent the organization on the District Health and Safety Committee and work with the Committee to develop and implement an integrated program to promote awareness of safety in the workplace.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents, and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Develop and deliver education workshops and seminars related to health and safety to district staff.
  • Perform hazard assessments and develop department training/safety programs and procedures.
  • Liaise with municipal and provincial emergency planners, update plans, organize exercises, and evaluate procedures.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary certificate or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, supplemented by a minimum two (2) years of industry-related experience.
  • 3 to 5 years directly related experience in the field of health and safety, preferably in a public sector unionized environment.
  • Possession of a recognized safety designation or certification is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Worker's Compensation Act, WorkSafeBC OH&S regulations, and claims management pertaining to health and safety in the workplace.
  • Ability to lead workplace inspections, investigate accidents or unsafe conditions, and accurately identify causes and recommend appropriate remedies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, work well under pressure, and deal with stressful situations with professionalism.
