POSITION SUMMARY:

Shawenim Abinoojii Inc is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Community Resource Development Coordinator to join our team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish positive and effective partnerships with communities, SECFS, resources, and service collaterals on and off-reserve.
  • Research and apply for Grants to build programming, run activities, and initiate cultural services that will be geared towards and benefit the children, youth, and families in the community.
  • Provide monthly Program Reports outlining planned, ongoing, and completed research grants, services, activities, strategies, and needs.
  • Recruitment of Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Community Members to help facilitate programming and services.
  • Running workshops for children, youth, and families such as beading, traditional crafting, and Indigenous centered activities.
  • Engaging families, children, youth, and the community in setting up and facilitating workshops, events, and programming.
  • Develop and facilitate House Parent, Support/Respite, and staff cultural centered teachings, training, and events.
  • Finding and planning outside Training/Trainers to attend to the community to facilitate workshops.
  • Running Pilot Programs to determine if programming will be successful, how it needs to be altered to fit the needs of all communities.
  • Work with the NRCP Community Coordinators and NRCP Case Managers to organize and facilitate Community-based events.
  • Partner with Community Resources (SECFS, Jordan's Principle, Leadership, Head Start, Schools etc.).
  • Host activities and events that is responsive to community needs and strengths, for the purpose of supporting healthy recreation and community engagement.
  • Practice inclusion – include all community members in events and encourage SAI homes to engage with others at community events.
  • Travel to the SE Communities as needed.
  • Utilize a strength-based approach in identifying responses to community needs.
  • Coordinate purchase of food and supplies when travelling to communities.
  • Actively participate in Community Resources pages on social media.
  • Distribute notices of community-based SAI activities and gatherings.
  • Developing Holiday and seasonal based contests, events, and activities.
  • Ensure outcomes, assessments, service plans are current and up to date.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 Education and experience in project development.
  • Satisfactory Child Abuse, Vulnerable Person check and Criminal Record check.
  • Valid MB class 5 Drivers license.
  • Proven ability to consult productively with collateral agencies and organizations.
  • Knowledge of Community and Family strengths and needs.
  • Knowledge of the Child and Family Services (CFS) sector and legislation.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and/or understanding of Indigenous perspectives, First Nations culture and traditional philosophies.
  • Knowledge of Child Development and Indigenous approaches to community-based care.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high attention to detail.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, word processing (MS Word), Spreadsheets (Excel), E-mail (Outlook) and Internet.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to speak Ojibwa language will be considered an asset.
  • Successful applicant will also be required to provide proof of at least the first two COVID-19 vaccination prior to start date.
