Job Summary
The Inclusion Coordinator is responsible for providing a high-quality early learning and care program that ensures equal access to benefits for all children, particularly those with additional support needs. This involves coordinating the provision of developmental services, preparing and assessing the positive emotional, physical, social, and cognitive development of children, and serving as a liaison between children, parents, and other professionals involved in their care.
Main Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain a safe, healthy, and inclusive learning environment that meets the needs of all children and families.
- Develop and implement a well-organized and purposeful program that utilizes safe practices, creative activities, and learning experiences that promote physical, social, emotional, and sensory development.
- Assist in developing Individual Plans (IPs) and monitor their implementation, ensuring that identified goals are integrated into daily programs and routines.
- Advance children's physical and intellectual competence by modifying activities and equipment to promote their physical, cognitive, and communication skills, as well as their creativity.
- Assess children's needs based on personal and continual observation, make modifications to programs as required, and make referrals when necessary.
- Provide resources to assist staff and increase their comfort level in implementing inclusive practices.
- Create an environment that builds positive self-concept and individual strength, treating all children as individuals in a respectful way, celebrating their successes, providing support and encouragement, and being sensitive to different abilities, values, and expectations.
- Promote positive functioning between children and adults by assisting in the development of social skills, encouraging feelings of empathy and mutual respect, and setting realistic behavioral expectations that encourage self-control and positive reinforcement while following behavior management guidelines.
- Coordinate center and home child-rearing practices by maintaining an open, friendly, and informative relationship with each child's family, recognizing that parents have primary responsibility for their children's care.
- Facilitate open and effective communication among parents, staff, specialists, and schools, ensuring there are strategies in place to support a smooth transition to school or another program.
- Maintain records of child observations and prepare written reports at least semi-annually.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism, including confidentiality, ethical and professional behavior, continuous personal and professional development, and participation in childcare organizations as appropriate.
