Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Paraprofessional to join our team at North Kansas City Schools. The successful candidate will provide support to our English Language Learners (ELL) program, working closely with teachers and staff to ensure the academic success of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the implementation of the ELL instructional program, including planning and delivering English language development instruction to identified ELLs.
  • Provide small group instruction to ELLs in the regular classroom setting, under the supervision of the ELL and classroom teachers.
  • Collaborate with teachers to plan and deliver appropriate instruction to ELLs, and communicate with staff, family members, and others regarding the needs of ELLs.
  • Assist with the administration and scoring of language assessments, and maintain accurate records related to ELL students and the ELL program.
  • Support the ELL teacher in devising strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on individual students' needs, and assist with maintaining good home-school communication.
  • Supervise students during emergency drills, assemblies, and other activities, and serve as a substitute for the ELL teacher as needed.
  • Perform routine clerical duties, such as filing and typing, and may be assigned specific tasks such as hallway supervision or bus duty.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 36 college hours from an accredited college or university, or a valid Missouri Teaching Certificate.
  • Pass the Paraprofessional test in the State of Missouri or complete the Missouri 20-hour Online Substitute Training Program.
  • Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents, and to work in a fast-paced environment.

The work environment is consistent with typical office/school environment, and the position requires a moderate amount of travel and physical activity.
