Position Overview


Assist the Kindergarten Educator in maintaining a well-structured and efficient classroom environment that enables students to fully engage with the educational program and utilize available resources effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in professional development training provided by the educational institution and/or relevant state education departments, with additional opportunities available.
  • Support the preparation of classroom activities under the guidance of the Kindergarten Educator.
  • Provide assistance to the Kindergarten Educator in delivering individualized and small group instruction tailored to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Help create a nurturing and developmentally appropriate learning atmosphere that is both healthy and appealing.
  • Assist the Kindergarten Educator with non-instructional tasks, including snack time, recess, lunch supervision, and personal care duties.
  • Support the maintenance of required records as mandated by the educational institution and/or state education authorities.
Additional Responsibilities
Perform other tasks and assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the Kindergarten Educator and school administration.

Job Specifications
The performance of this role will be evaluated annually in accordance with the policies set forth by the Board regarding the evaluation of support personnel.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required)
  • Must meet the requirements for a paraprofessional, which includes one of the following: a minimum of 60 college credit hours, an Associate's Degree, a Paraprofessional certificate (minimum score of 456 on the exam), or successful completion of the four areas of WorkKeys.
  • Exhibit a strong aptitude for the role, including proficiency in spoken and written communication, a positive disposition towards young children, and an understanding of the developmental needs of young learners.
  • Any alternative qualifications deemed appropriate and acceptable by the administration and/or Board.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While fulfilling the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to stand, reach with hands and arms, walk, sit, stoop or kneel, and crouch or crawl.
Additional physical requirements include:
  • Ability to frequently lift or move up to 40 pounds;
  • Specific vision requirements including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus;
  • Capacity to sit and stand for extended periods;
  • Manual dexterity for telephone use and data entry;
  • Ability to read a computer screen and printed materials with or without vision aids;
  • Ability to hear and comprehend speech at normal levels and on the telephone;
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person and on the telephone.

Compensation Grade: Based on Educational Background
