ELL Instructional Support Specialist

POSITION: ELL INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT SPECIALIST
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A minimum of thirty to sixty college credit hours from an accredited institution is required, passing the Paraprofessional assessment in the State of Missouri or completing the Missouri 20-hour Online Substitute Training Program; sixty college hours are preferred.
- A valid Missouri Teaching Certificate is preferred.
- Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Alternatives to the above qualifications may be considered as deemed appropriate by the Board.
SUPERVISION: Reports to the Building Principal and ELL Program Coordinator
Direct Supervisor: ELL Teacher
JOB OBJECTIVE: To support the execution of all components of the English Language Learners program within the school.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
To successfully perform this role, an individual must be able to execute each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. - Under the guidance of the ELL teacher, plans and delivers English language development instruction to designated ELL students in small groups and/or individual sessions.
- Collaborates with ELL and classroom teachers to provide small group instruction to ELL students within the general classroom environment.
- Engages in communication with the ELL teacher and classroom educators to plan and implement suitable instruction for ELL students.
- Interacts with other staff members, families, and stakeholders regarding the requirements of ELL students.
- Aids in the administration and evaluation of language assessments.
- Assists with necessary reporting and documentation related to ELL students and the ELL program.
- Supports ELL and classroom teachers in developing tailored strategies for reinforcing material or skills, based on a compassionate understanding of individual students and their cultural, linguistic, and academic backgrounds.
- Aids the ELL teacher in fostering effective home-school communication; requests interpreters from the ELL office when needed.
- Supervises students during emergency drills, assemblies, and other activities.
- Acts as the primary source of information and assistance to any substitute teacher filling in for the ELL teacher.
- May serve as a substitute for the ELL teacher, as required or assigned, on an emergency basis.
- Maintains a high standard of ethical behavior and confidentiality regarding student information, as expected of a fully licensed educator.
- May be assigned routine clerical tasks such as filing, typing, etc.
- May have specific responsibilities such as hallway supervision, bus duty, car rider duty, in-school suspension, after-school detention, etc.
- Bilingual ELL instructional assistants may be requested to interpret and/or translate documents during duty hours.
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Adheres to all district rules, regulations, and policies.
- Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The individual in this role is regularly required to walk, hear, and speak, and must possess close, moderate, and distance vision abilities. This individual must be able to travel between district facilities, which may require a moderate amount of travel and physical activity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is consistent with a typical office/school setting.
EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Salary and work calendar to be determined by the Board of Education. Benefits are in accordance with Board policies.
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION: The performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluations, utilizing the Performance Based Support Staff Evaluation process.
