Job Description

Job Title: Dementia Care Specialist

Reports to: Director of Geriatric Services

Job Summary: The Dementia Care Specialist will work with health and social support providers to develop and facilitate responsive training and learning opportunities for staff in Long Term Care Homes and community support agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and provide training programs for staff on dementia care and management.
  2. Collaborate with healthcare providers and community organizations to identify gaps in services and develop solutions.
  3. Support and coach staff to understand behavior and psychological symptoms of dementia and mental illness in older adults.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in gerontology or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in geriatric psychiatry and/or medicine.
  • Completion of curriculums such as PIECES, Gentle Persuasive Approaches in Dementia Care (GPA), Dementibility, and Mental Health First Aid.

Working Conditions: The Dementia Care Specialist will work in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with multiple healthcare providers and community organizations. The individual must have excellent communication and facilitation skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
