About the Position:
The Animal Care Attendant is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of the animals in our shelter. This includes maintaining a clean and sanitary environment, administering medications, and providing exceptional care to our furry friends.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintaining the physical plant in a clean, efficient manner on an ongoing basis
- Cleaning and sanitizing kennel runs and cat cages
- Treating animals with compassion and respect, and promoting these values to others
- Providing animals with proper diet and ensuring they have access to food and water
- Ensuring animal health and well-being according to our animal health policy
- Maintaining high standards to portray a positive image of the BC SPCA
- Assisting in coordinating volunteer work and supporting staff
- Performing other duties as required to ensure smooth shelter operation
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Class N or 5 BC Drivers' License and driver's abstract
- Philosophical harmony with the BC SPCA mission and vision
- Demonstrated interest in animal welfare
- Sound knowledge of animals and their characteristics
- Strong desire to provide excellent customer service skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Resourceful team player with ability to build trusting relationships
- Highly motivated self-starter with initiative
- Ability to maintain fitness and endurance for physically demanding role
- Computer experience: Windows, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Ability to prioritize demands on time
Compensation:
$20.79 per hour, plus benefits package
