The Animal Care Attendant is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of the animals in our shelter. This includes maintaining a clean and sanitary environment, administering medications, and providing exceptional care to our furry friends.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining the physical plant in a clean, efficient manner on an ongoing basis
  • Cleaning and sanitizing kennel runs and cat cages
  • Treating animals with compassion and respect, and promoting these values to others
  • Providing animals with proper diet and ensuring they have access to food and water
  • Ensuring animal health and well-being according to our animal health policy
  • Maintaining high standards to portray a positive image of the BC SPCA
  • Assisting in coordinating volunteer work and supporting staff
  • Performing other duties as required to ensure smooth shelter operation

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Class N or 5 BC Drivers' License and driver's abstract
  • Philosophical harmony with the BC SPCA mission and vision
  • Demonstrated interest in animal welfare
  • Sound knowledge of animals and their characteristics
  • Strong desire to provide excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Resourceful team player with ability to build trusting relationships
  • Highly motivated self-starter with initiative
  • Ability to maintain fitness and endurance for physically demanding role
  • Computer experience: Windows, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Ability to prioritize demands on time

Compensation:

$20.79 per hour, plus benefits package
