The Elsie Fabian School, a proud member of the Fort McKay First Nation, seeks a highly skilled and dedicated Education Director to join its team. As the leader of the Education Department, you will play a vital role in shaping the curriculum and education program to meet the needs of students.

This is a permanent full-time salaried position based on 75 hours bi-weekly, located in Fort McKay, Alberta. We offer a competitive salary range of $80,000 - $110,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

About the Role

The Education Director will work closely with community advisory groups to develop and implement education programs that cater to the needs of students. As a mentor, you will coach teachers on how to effectively implement courses and work collaboratively with the Governing Body, Fort McKay First Nation Education, to ensure compliance with rules, laws, and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop best teaching practices by collaborating with teachers and paraprofessionals
  • Implement different curricula based on grade level and school subject, choose textbooks and classroom materials
  • Conduct training workshops for teachers prior to the school year starting to teach them how to implement the chosen curriculum
  • Monitor teachers' progress toward achieving educational goals
  • Create a safe and caring environment that fosters well-being and maintains respectful and responsible behavior for each student

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education required, plus 5-7 years senior administrative experience required
  • Post Graduate Degree is an asset
  • Able to supply a clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector
  • Extensive experience working in a First Nations community, including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions, and values
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License & Clean Driver's Abstract Required
  • Successful candidate will be required to live in (or relocate to) Fort McMurray, Alberta

The Fort McKay First Nation is a proud community composed of over 700 band members, including those of Cree and Dene heritage, with approximately 500 members residing in the hamlet of Fort McKay.
