Community Support Specialist

Job Summary:
The Community Support Counselor - Peer Specialist plays a vital role in our multidisciplinary team, providing assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation support to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. This position requires a strong understanding of mental health legislation and reform, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation support to clients in their environment of choice
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss client care and treatment plans
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients and their families
- Provide education and support to families and caregivers
- Act as a role model and promote hope and empowerment in clients' recovery
Requirements:
- Post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent human services experience
- Minimum 3 years of front-line care-taking experience in the community with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness
- Significant lived personal experience with the mental health system
- Excellent knowledge of mental health legislation and reform, consumer/survivor issues, and principles of psychosocial rehabilitation
- Excellent assessment, crisis intervention, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to function effectively in a team
Working Conditions:
This position requires a valid driver's license, adequate insurance, and access to a car. Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
