Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to join our team at Kensington Health Centre. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting ophthalmologists in clinics, performing diagnostic tests, and providing excellent patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist ophthalmologists in clinics by accurately testing patients' vision, applying eye drops, and performing diagnostic tests.
  • Perform Visual Field Testing, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Photography, Ultrasound, and other diagnostic procedures.
  • Provide instructions to patients on eye care and ensure accurate medical records management.
  • Establish and maintain good relations with patients, families, and the Kensington Health community.
  • Follow established processes to obtain and manage patient information.
  • Communicate with patients and their families to promote patient-centred care.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Possess a good eye for detail and technical skills.
  • Ability to manage patient expectations and concerns.
  • Team-oriented and collaborative, with a willingness to learn and coach others.
  • Ability to interpret ambiguous situations and put them into a structured framework.
  • Ability to deal with multiple tasks, tight timelines, and peak busy periods.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in an ophthalmology setting.
  • Experience with ophthalmology diagnostic tools and electronic patient scheduling software.
  • Medical background and knowledge of ophthalmic equipment and procedures.
  • Previous experience working in a fast-paced environment.

Required Professional Designation/Certificate:

  • Sc. or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certification; Certified Ophthalmic Technicians (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT).
