About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Practical Nurse to join our team at Kensington Health as an Ophthalmic Care Specialist.

Job Summary

This is a full-time opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to provide high-quality patient care in an ophthalmology setting. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will work closely with surgeons and other healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing patient-centered quality care in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario standards;
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to our organization's integrity policy;
  • Assessing, evaluating, and accurately recording patient pre- and postoperative status;
  • Maintaining accurate and complete records;
  • Sets up and assists with all surgical procedures;
  • Paying strict attention to the operating field and anticipating the needs of the team;
  • Demonstrating care and handling of surgical instruments per facility policies;
  • Scrubs and assists the surgeon during surgical procedures while maintaining focus on the operative field;
  • Being accountable for one's decisions and professional practice;
  • Observing strict sterile/aseptic techniques throughout the procedure and reporting any breaks in technique;
  • Communicating effectively in English both verbally and in writing;
  • Working effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must possess:

  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Experience in ophthalmology is preferred;
  • Experience in scrubbing techniques in an OR is preferred;
  • Knowledge of the ORNAC standards;
  • Continuous preoperative clinical development/competency;
  • Evidence of a good working ethic and an excellent attendance record.
Professional Designations/Certifications

Apart from the required certifications, we value membership in local professional associations.

Compensation Package

This position comes with a competitive salary of $85,000 - $110,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
