Job Summary

The Government of Nunavut is seeking a highly skilled Inuit Training Initiatives Consultant to join our team. As a key member of our Public Service Training division, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing comprehensive training programs that enhance the career development and training opportunities of all Government of Nunavut employees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate comprehensive training programs, human resource planning, leadership programs, and certificate programs that are Government of Nunavut funded and other 3rd party funded sources.
  • Enhance the career development and training opportunities of all Government of Nunavut employees, with particular emphasis placed on assisting departments in implementing their Inuit Employment Plans as prescribed under Article 23 of the Nunavut Agreement.
  • Serve as an advisor to the Manager, the Director, Public Service Training, Assistant Deputy Minister, and Deputy Minister of Human Resources and to all departments on matters relating to overall Inuit staff development and effective training practices.
  • Lead the planning and delivery of current programs and initiatives offered by the Public Service Training division; design, develop and implement new learning opportunities for Government of Nunavut staff through implementation of Government of Nunavut-Wide Training Plan.
  • Provide career development opportunities to Government of Nunavut staff; manage key performance management functions of the Government of Nunavut by providing guidance and support to managers/trainers and trainees; and promoting the Government of Nunavut as a key employer by planning, coordinating and evaluating special events such as career fairs, conferences and workshops.
  • Develop relationships and liaising with a variety of stakeholders (federal and municipal governments, community groups, departments, boards and agencies, other jurisdictions) to foster information sharing and partnerships.
  • Participate in the hiring process for Inuit trainee positions; develop briefing notes, reports, press releases and other submissions to update the Deputy and Minister.
Requirements
  • A recognized undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Education, Social Sciences, Indigenous Studies, or related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in Human Resources, Training and Development, or another relevant field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Fluency in more than one of Nunavut's official languages would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
