Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced leader to fill this key position. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading our economic development, conference services, communications, public engagement, community partnerships, and arts and culture initiatives.

About the Role

The Economic Development and Community Partnerships Director will report to the Chief Administrative Officer and lead a team of dedicated professionals. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership, strategy, and direction for economic development, conference services, communications, public engagement, community partnerships, and arts and culture initiatives.
  • Leading the coordination of economic development, conference service, cultural, and community partnership initiatives to achieve City Council's strategic priorities.
  • Directing department operations, including preparing annual and long-term business plans and budgets, people management, and monitoring and controlling expenditures.
  • Ensuring department policies, plans, activities, and operations align with Council's strategic priorities.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A graduate degree in public administration, community development, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in a leadership and administrative capacity in economic development, conference services, communications, public engagement, community partnerships, and arts and culture, preferably in the public sector.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant local, provincial, and federal legislation and bylaws, including the Local Government Act and Community Charter.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills within a unionized environment.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and monitoring operating budgets, including financial planning and reporting, asset and resource management.
  • A commitment to anti-oppression, anti-racism, reconciliation, and decolonization principles.
What We Offer

Newwestcity offers a competitive salary range of $120,000 - $160,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. Additionally, we provide a comprehensive benefits package, including medical and dental coverage, pension plan, and opportunities for professional development.
