Job Summary

The Physician Assistant will work under the direct supervision of an immediately available Attending Critical Care Physician within a multidisciplinary team in an academic Intensive Care Unit (ICU) setting. The Physician Assistant will play a major role in facilitating consistent application of clinical protocols and continuity of care, and will also identify patients with acute clinical issues common to tertiary medical/surgical intensive care units and work within the multidisciplinary team to appropriately manage patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a full range of physician assistant services in accordance with privileges granted
  • Request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health care resources as indicated
  • Order diagnostic tests as applicable
  • Prescribe and dispense medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee
Requirements
  • Graduate of Physician Assistant Program
  • Prior experience in a critical care setting an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions in times of emergencies
  • Demonstrated ability to work alongside Intensivists, Nurses and other Health Care Professionals
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to promote professional development
  • Demonstrated leadership and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient and family-centered care
  • Demonstrated ability for independent action, initiative, problem-solving, organization and prioritization
