About this Role

We're seeking a highly motivated Senior Litigation Counsel to join our Claims Litigation Team. In this role, you'll manage your own files from inception through resolution, collaborating closely with senior lawyers on complex cases to enhance your professional development and legal expertise.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Draft initial pleadings, prepare discovery, and review new file assignments to ensure thorough understanding of client goals.
  2. Prepare for and attend case conferences, arbitration, discovery, mediations, pre-trials, and trials, utilizing strong analytical skills and knowledge of the law.
  3. Perform due diligence, gather relevant facts and documents, and collaborate with law clerks, paralegals, and/or other lawyers in assessing files.
  4. Research and determine applicable laws, statutes, regulations, rules, and other legal authority; identify legal issues and provide advice to the business unit.
  5. Monitor and review new laws, regulations, and case law; identify and summarize relevant issues; collaborate with the Law & Regulation department and proactively advise on the impact of new laws on business.
  6. Provide legal approval for company documents, policies, practices, and procedures, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements.
  7. Draft, review, and negotiate basic matters, including routine correspondence and communications.
  8. Gather facts from clients to understand their objectives and respond to claims inquiries.
Requirements
  1. Possesses a Law Degree and is a member of the Law Society of Ontario in good standing.
  2. Minimum 3-5 years' experience, preferably with accident benefits, issue management, and dispute resolution.
  3. Ability to influence others, possess analytical skills, and utilize knowledge of the law for sound decision-making.
  4. Excellent technical, drafting, reporting, and research skills are required, along with computer proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, exercising discretion and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
Benefits and Remuneration

We offer a competitive salary range of $120,000 - $180,000 per annum, based on experience and qualifications, plus opportunities for career growth and professional development within a dynamic organization.
