The City of Lethbridge is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Emergency Communications Specialist to join our Public Safety Communications Centre (PSCC) team. As an Emergency Communications Specialist, you will be responsible for processing and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls, providing assistance and instruction to callers, and using a Computer Aided Dispatch System and other computer programs to manage incoming and outgoing radio transmissions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process and dispatch emergency and non-emergency calls
  • Provide assistance and instruction to callers using established procedures and protocols
  • Use a Computer Aided Dispatch System and other computer programs to manage incoming and outgoing radio transmissions
  • Perform general support duties related to the 24-hour operations of a Public Safety Communications Centre
Requirements
  • High school diploma
  • Skills in entering and retrieving data, and typing a minimum of 40 words per minute
  • Working knowledge of Hexagon CAD systems and IAED Protocol Software
  • Preference may be given to applicants who are certified with the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch in any discipline
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask while handling emergency events
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR qualifications or a higher equivalent
Additional Requirements
  • Applicants must consent to and pass a police security clearance
  • Applicants must be at a minimum 1 year clear of any detected or undetected criminal activity
  • Applicants will be required to complete a basic industry-related aptitude, hearing, and typing tests, as well as a psychological assessment and interview
