Job Summary

The City of Lethbridge is seeking a skilled Emergency Communications Specialist to join our Public Safety Communications Centre team. As an Emergency Communications Specialist, you will be responsible for processing and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls, providing assistance and instruction to callers, and using a Computer Aided Dispatch System and other computer programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and dispatch emergency and non-emergency calls
  • Provide assistance and instruction to callers using established procedures and protocols
  • Use a Computer Aided Dispatch System and other computer programs
  • Answer and monitor incoming and outgoing radio transmissions
  • Perform general support duties related to the 24-hour operations of a Public Safety Communications Centre

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Skills in entering and retrieving data, and typing a minimum of 40 words per minute
  • Working knowledge of Hexagon CAD systems and IAED Protocol Software
  • Preference may be given to applicants who are certified with the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch in any discipline
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to react calmly and decisively, and prioritize and multitask while handling emergency events

Additional Requirements

  • Applicants must consent to and pass a police security clearance
  • Applicants must be at least 1 year clear of any detected or undetected criminal activity
  • Applicants will be required to complete a basic industry-related aptitude, hearing, and typing tests, as well as a psychological assessment and interview
