Employment and Labour Law Specialist

About the Role
KPMG Law LLP is seeking a first-year Associate with a passion for Employment and Labour Law to join our team. As a key member of our Employment and Labour law team, you will be responsible for researching and analyzing employment and labour law issues effectively to develop understanding of the law.
Key Responsibilities
- Researching and analyzing employment and labour law issues to develop understanding of the law
- Involvement in all stages of files including intake, drafting, researching, conducting discoveries, attending motions, negotiating, advocating at mediations, and participating in trials
- Advising on a wide variety of employment issues with support and supervision of Senior Associates and Partners
- Identifying legal issues, researching and analyzing complicated situations quickly and developing practical solutions
- Developing good working relationships with a variety of stakeholders and working effectively with outside counsel
- Writing briefs on regulations, legal/compliance matters and other ad hoc legal issues
- Collaborating with a team of experienced lawyers to address complex employment and labour issues
Requirements
- Junior Associate, called to the Bar in 2024 and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
- Interest in practicing Employment and Labour Law
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Legal writing skills
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high volume environment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
