Overview

KPMG Canada is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Associate to join our Employment and Labour Law team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for researching and analyzing employment and labour law issues to develop a deep understanding of the law.

About the Role

As a Junior Associate, you will be involved in all stages of files, including intake, drafting, researching, conducting discoveries, attending motions, negotiating, advocating at mediations, and participating in trials. You will also advise on a wide variety of employment issues with the support and supervision of Senior Associates and Partners.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Research and analyze employment and labour law issues to develop a deep understanding of the law
  2. Involve in all stages of files, including intake, drafting, researching, conducting discoveries, attending motions, negotiating, advocating at mediations, and participating in trials
  3. Advise on a wide variety of employment issues with the support and supervision of Senior Associates and Partners
  4. Identify legal issues, research and analyze complicated situations quickly and develop practical solutions
  5. Develop good working relationships with a variety of stakeholders and work effectively with outside counsel
  6. Write briefs on regulations, legal/compliance matters and other ad hoc legal issues
  7. Collaborate with a team of experienced lawyers to address complex employment and labour issues

Requirements

  1. Junior Associate, called to the Bar in 2024 and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
  2. Interest in practicing Employment and Labour Law
  3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  4. Legal writing skills
  5. Strong research and analytical skills
  6. Strong attention to detail
  7. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high volume environment
  8. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  9. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
