Community Mental Health Worker Role

We are currently seeking a qualified Community Mental Health Worker to join our Mental Health Supervised Consumption team at the Outreach Urban Health Centre in Kelowna, B.C.

The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of supervised consumption services, knowledge of harm reduction principles, and the ability to work with clients with complex mental health and substance use disorders.

Responsibilities

The Community Mental Health Worker will function as a part of the larger Hospitals & Communities Integrated Services (HCIS) healthcare team and as a member of a specific Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) multi-disciplinary specialized team. Key responsibilities include:

• Providing life skills, advocacy, supportive counseling, and psychosocial rehabilitation planning for clients living in their own housing

• Working within a psychosocial rehabilitation/harm reduction framework and informed by existing psychiatric and other health professional assessments

• Establishing rehabilitation objectives and/or psychosocial rehabilitation plans for assigned client populations

Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

• A Grade 12 diploma or equivalent

• A relevant diploma in a field such as social work, counseling, or a related field

• Two years of recent related experience working with the assigned client population(s) experiencing mental health and/or substance abuse problems

• A valid B.C. Driver's License
