About the Role

This is a dynamic opportunity for a seasoned retail professional to join The North West Company as a General Merchandise Specialist. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for driving sales growth and profitability in our General Merchandise categories.

Key Responsibilities
  • Category Management: Develop and execute category strategies to drive sales growth and profitability, including analyzing sales data, identifying trends, and making recommendations for product assortment and pricing.
  • Merchandising and Inventory Management: Oversee the merchandising and inventory management processes for General Merchandise categories, ensuring that products are properly stocked, priced, and displayed to meet customer needs.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and develop a team of retail professionals, providing coaching, training, and guidance to ensure they have the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their roles.
  • Market Analysis: Conduct market analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and threats, and make recommendations to senior management on how to capitalize on these insights.
  • Travel: Travel to various locations to assess performance, train and coach staff, and perform audits to ensure the delivery and superior execution of merchandising programs, in-stock performance, shrink management, operating standards, promotional programs, inventory management practices, and pricing policies.
Requirements
  • Category Management Experience: 2 or more years of experience in category management, retail specialist, department/store/district manager, or a combination of equivalent experience.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to lead and develop a team of retail professionals.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze sales data, identify trends, and make recommendations for product assortment and pricing.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate complex ideas to senior management.
  • Travel: Ability to travel up to 90 days per year to various locations.
