Job Overview

This role is part of the Recreation, Cultural & Facility Services Department at the City of Ottawa. We are seeking a Youth and Child Care Worker to work with children aged 12 and up in a positive reinforcement and social skills training program.

About the Position

We have multiple part-time permanent positions available, working up to 24 hours a week. The successful candidate will work various shifts including days, evenings, and weekends.

Responsibilities

The Youth and Child Care Worker will be responsible for:

  • Providing support and guidance to children with attention deficit, ADHD, conduct disorder, and other learning disabilities
  • Implementing social skills training programs and activities
  • Ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all participants
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A college diploma or university degree in Recreation, Child Care/Youth Worker, Kinesiology, or Physical Education
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working with multi-cultural youth aged 12 and up
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR, and/or AED certificates
  • Crisis Prevention/Intervention training certificate
  • AODA Customer Service/IASR Training
Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is $22.30 per hour (based on 2024 rates of pay). As an employee of the City of Ottawa, you will also be eligible for benefits and opportunities for professional growth and development.

Language Requirement

Varying language requirements apply depending on the location of the position. Some positions may require English only, French only, or bilingual competencies.

The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City's satisfaction.
