Job Summary

The Simcoe County District School Board is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cyber Security and Data Privacy Manager to join our team. As a key member of our Information Technology Services department, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the board's cyber security strategies, policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Enforce Cyber Security Policies: Create and implement policies and procedures to ensure the protection of sensitive data and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Manage Cyber Security Team: Supervise and lead a team of cyber security professionals to monitor and protect against threats.
  • Manage Security Projects: Oversee the completion of security projects, ensuring they are properly documented and completed within budget and on time.
  • Conduct Security Audits and Risk Assessments: Regularly conduct security audits and risk assessments to identify potential vulnerabilities and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Respond to Security Incidents: Lead remediation efforts in response to security incidents and ensure timely resolution.
  • Provide Training and Awareness: Develop and deliver training programs to educate staff and students on data security best practices.
  • Oversee Security Technologies: Manage the implementation and maintenance of security technologies, including firewalls, anti-virus software, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Monitor Network Resources: Regularly analyze network resources for abnormalities and potential security breaches, taking prompt action to address any issues.
  • Participate in Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the Information Technology Services department to develop and review the ITS strategic plan.
  • Support Security Initiatives: Assist in the implementation of identity and security-related processes and procedures.
Requirements
  • Education: University degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent, plus relevant certifications.
  • Experience: Minimum five years' experience in cyber security management or seven years' related experience in information technology, including experience in a large complex unionized environment.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven supervisory and leadership skills, including direct experience supervising employees.
  • Cyber Security Knowledge: Excellent knowledge of cybersecurity detect and response methodologies, standards, and best practices.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient and demonstrated experience in managing network security, operating systems security, and cloud security.
  • IT/Cybersecurity Concepts: Proven understanding of key IT/cybersecurity concepts, including network security, security operations and administration, managed detection and response, incident response and recovery, vulnerability management, etc.
  • Cyber Security Frameworks: Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of current cyber security frameworks, including NIST, CIS, ISO 27001, and ISO 27002.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent team leadership and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work independently and in a team environment, with exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
