Job Summary

The City of Ottawa is seeking a highly skilled Instrumentation and Controls Technologist to join our team. As a key member of our Water Services department, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing the upgrade and optimization of process control instrumentation systems and related maintenance activities within the Wastewater Treatment Plant or Wastewater Collection Facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Optimize control system loops and respond to process issues
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot analog and digital instrumentation and controls system issues
  • Develop and determine maintenance procedures and frequencies
  • Work in consultation with internal staff to select, implement, and upgrade hardware and components

Requirements

  • Completion of a 3-year college diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation Technology, or a related diploma program
  • Minimum of five years of experience as an Electronics/Instrumentation Technologist in an industrial setting, preferably in a water or sewage treatment plant
  • Ontario MOE Wastewater Treatment/Collection Operator Certificates at the appropriate level

  • Ability to work effectively with others and with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs in confined spaces
