About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant Manager to join our team at Sleep Country Canada. As a key member of our Accounting department, you will play a critical role in driving financial performance and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing the month-end close process, including timely and accurate execution of financial deliverables;
  • Reviewing monthly/quarterly Balance Sheet account reconciliations and identifying potential risks and recommended actions;
  • Approving manual journal entries with quality supporting documentation;
  • Maintaining and reporting dashboards of relevant KPIs to Finance management on a timely basis;
  • Ensuring complex transactions are appropriately accounted, documented, and implemented;
  • Complying with internal controls and policies, making necessary adjustments as required;
  • Driving accuracy and efficiency of intercompany transactions to support reporting visibility, consolidation, and elimination activities;
  • Reviewing division's regulatory and tax compliance requirements, including all Division's tax filings (income taxes, sales taxes, and withholding tax returns);
  • Liaising with internal and external auditors, Corporate Accounting team, consultants, other business units as required;
Process Improvements and Operational Support

The ideal candidate will design and ensure the effectiveness of operational and financial controls, proactively assessing current controls, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new processes. This includes responding to financial issues or control weaknesses by determining root cause and proposing processes to mitigate/resolve gaps, socializing, implementing, and managing change strategies as it relates to process changes, creating and maintaining narratives on significant processes owned by SCCI Accounting Team, and supporting the Senior Manager, Controller, and Finance Leadership team as required.

Team Management

The selected individual will manage day-to-day direction of the Accounting team (6 Senior Accountants) and provide continuous performance feedback, training, and coaching. They will also allocate resources to support core deliverables and new tasks or projects.

About You

To succeed in this role, you must have:

  • A University or College degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related discipline; CPA is required;
  • Minimum 4 years' progressive experience, including minimum 2 years' experience in public accounting; retail and manufacturing industry experience is an asset;
  • In-depth knowledge of IFRS and controls;
  • Demonstrated experience in people management, mentoring, and leading teams;
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, organizational, relationship-building, negotiation, analytical, presentation, and project management skills;
  • Quick learner ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment;
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with both internal and external stakeholders, building and developing strong partnerships;
  • Proficient in MS Excel and PowerPoint.
