About the Role

Douglas College is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Student Research Assistant to support our exploratory research project, College Life. This project examines the evolving college system mandate and the experiences of college instructors as they navigate research agendas while employed at education-focused colleges.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with team meeting support, including note-taking and organization of project documents and timelines.
  • Contribute to literature and policy review.
  • Assist with designing research study tools, including interview guides.
  • Support the development of an ethics application.
  • Participate in data collection, analysis, and knowledge dissemination.
Requirements
  • Be a Psychology, Criminology, or Sociology student.
  • Be proficient with MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Have effective communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Have strong organizational skills and project-management experience.
  • Familiarity with policy analysis, survey design, and qualitative interviewing is an asset.
  • Knowledge of SPSS and NVivo is an asset.
  • Research methods courses in social sciences are an asset.
  • Knowledge of college and community sector research is an asset.
Eligibility Criteria

Domestic students must meet one of the following criteria to be eligible to work as a Student Assistant/Student Research Assistant:

  • Be enrolled in, and maintain, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College throughout the work term.
  • Have been enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College in the term immediately preceding the work term and have indicated an intention to enroll at the college in the term immediately following the work term.
  • Be enrolled in, and maintain, a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in British Columbia throughout the work term.
  • Have been enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. in the term immediately preceding the work term and have indicated an intention to enroll at the institution in the term immediately following the work term.

International students must meet one of the following criteria to be eligible to work as a Student Assistant/Student Research Assistant:

  • Be enrolled in full-time studies at Douglas College throughout the academic year.
  • Be an international student at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. with a valid Study Permit that has the notation – "May accept employment on or off campus if meeting eligibility criteria as per R186 (F), (V) or (W). Must cease working if no longer meeting these criteria."

Qualified Douglas College students meeting the above criteria will be given first preference over students of other qualifying institutions.
