Position Overview

As a Research Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing assistance for various project initiatives within the office of Institutional Effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

Under the guidance of your supervisor, your tasks may include:
  • Conducting survey-related activities such as data coding with tools like Qualtrics, designing surveys, and performing thematic analysis of qualitative information.
  • Engaging in both primary and secondary research, including conducting one-on-one interviews.
  • Preparing reports, which involve the creation of visual data representations using Excel.
  • Developing or updating Tableau dashboards and workbooks.
  • Performing quantitative data analysis.
  • Executing program demand assessments utilizing Lightcast software.
  • Ensuring data integrity through quality checks and completeness verification.
  • Assisting with other related responsibilities as required.

Qualifications for Success

To excel in this position, you will need:
  • Strong quantitative analysis capabilities.
  • Proficient experience with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • A willingness to learn and utilize additional statistical software (e.g., SPSS, NVivo).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A keen attention to detail.
  • The ability to work independently.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have completed coursework in research methodologies, statistics, data analysis, computer science, and first-year English.

Eligibility Criteria

Domestic students must fulfill ONE of the following conditions to qualify for the role:

  1. Enrolled in at least one (3 credit) course at Douglas College during the work term; OR
  2. Have been enrolled in at least one (3 credit) course at Douglas College in the term preceding the work term and intend to enroll in the subsequent term; OR
  3. Enrolled in at least two (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. during the work term; OR
  4. Have been enrolled in at least two (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. in the term preceding the work term and intend to enroll in the subsequent term.

International students must meet ONE of the following criteria:

  1. Enrolled in full-time studies at Douglas College throughout the academic year; OR
  2. International students at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. must possess a valid Study Permit with the notation allowing employment, alongside proof of full-time enrollment.

Documentation such as a Social Insurance Number (SIN) and a Study Permit is required by law prior to commencing work.

Qualified students from Douglas College will be prioritized over those from other institutions.
