Responsibilities

As a Weapons Engineering Technician, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring and evaluating electronic equipment to ensure optimal performance
  • Operating diagnostic systems, specialized tools, and test equipment to identify and repair faults
  • Performing diagnostic analysis on components and systems to determine the root cause of issues
  • Repairing faulty electronic equipment to ensure minimal downtime
  • Inspecting, maintaining, and installing electronic components to ensure compliance with safety standards
  • Compiling logs, reports, and maintenance documentation to track progress and identify areas for improvement
  • Reading and interpreting electronic drawings to understand system configurations and component interactions
Requirements

To be eligible for this position, you must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Canada
  • Be at least 18 years old (17 years old with parental consent), except for certain programs that may have different age requirements
  • Have completed at least Grade 10 or Secondaire IV in Québec (some jobs may require higher levels of education)
Training and Education

As a Weapons Engineering Technician, you will undergo comprehensive training and education to develop the skills and knowledge required for this role. This will include:

  • Basic Military Qualification course, which provides the basic core skills and knowledge common to all trades
  • Naval Environmental Training, which covers topics such as general duties, force protection, and damage control
  • Weapons Engineering Technician Training, which includes academic upgrading, electrical and electronics theory, communications theory and applications, and radar theory and applications
Specialty Training

As a Weapons Engineering Technician, you may be offered the opportunity to develop specialized skills through formal courses and on-the-job training for topics such as side scan sonar operation, video conferencing terminal maintenance, high-reliability soldering, explosives safety inspection, and fibre optics.
