Responsibilities

As a Weapons Engineering Technician, you will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of electronic equipment on board ships. This will include:

  • Monitoring and evaluating electronic equipment
  • Operating diagnostic systems and specialized tools
  • Performing diagnostic analysis on components and systems
  • Repairing faulty electronic equipment
  • Inspecting, maintaining, and installing electronic components
  • Compiling logs, reports, and maintenance documentation
  • Reading and interpreting electronic drawings
Requirements

To be eligible for this position, you must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Canada
  • Be at least 18 years old (17 years old with parental consent)
  • Have completed at least Grade 10 or Secondaire IV in Québec
Training and Education

As a Weapons Engineering Technician, you will undergo extensive training and education, including:

  • Basic Military Qualification course
  • Naval Environmental Training
  • Weapons Engineering Technician Training

This training will provide you with the skills and knowledge necessary to perform your duties as a Weapons Engineering Technician.

Specialty Training

As a Weapons Engineering Technician, you may be offered the opportunity to develop specialized skills through formal courses and on-the-job training for topics such as:

  • Side Scan Sonar Operation
  • Video Conferencing Terminal Maintainer
  • High-Reliability Soldering
  • Explosives Safety Inspection
  • Fibre Optics
Education Requirements

The minimum required education to apply for this position is the completion of the provincial requirements for Grade 10 or Secondaire IV in Québec, including:

  • Grade 10 Applied Math
  • A Physics course at any level is an asset but not required
Direct Entry Plan

Ideal candidates will already have a diploma or Red Seal for a related civilian trade. If you already have a university or college diploma, the CAF will decide if your academic program matches the criteria for this job and may optimize your progression following basic training.
