Weapons Engineering Technician

Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Weapons Engineering Technician to join our team at the Canadian Armed Forces. As a key member of our naval operations, you will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of complex electronic systems, including radar, communications, and marine navigation systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and evaluate electronic equipment to ensure optimal performance
- Operate diagnostic systems, specialized tools, and test equipment to identify and repair faults
- Perform diagnostic analysis on components and systems to determine root causes of issues
- Repair and maintain electronic equipment, including radar and communications systems
- Inspect, maintain, and install electronic components to ensure system reliability
- Compile logs, reports, and maintenance documentation to track system performance and maintenance activities
- Read and interpret electronic drawings to understand system design and functionality
Requirements
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Canada
- Be at least 18 years old (17 years old with parental consent)
- Have completed at least Grade 10 or Secondaire IV in Québec
Education and Training
As a Weapons Engineering Technician, you will have the opportunity to develop specialized skills through formal courses and on-the-job training. You may be offered the chance to develop skills in areas such as side scan sonar operation, video conferencing terminal maintenance, high-reliability soldering, explosives safety inspection, and fibre optics.
Work Environment
As a member of our naval operations team, you will spend much of your career on board ships with home ports in Halifax, Nova Scotia, or Esquimalt, British Columbia. You will experience exciting adventures and unique challenges that come with working at sea, including performing tasks in small, dimly lit spaces or on open decks for repairs and maintenance.
Basic Military Qualification
The first stage of training is the Basic Military Qualification course, or Basic Training, held at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Québec, or through various training establishments across Canada. This training provides the basic core skills and knowledge common to all trades.
Naval Environmental Training
Naval recruits attend Naval Fleet School Pacific in Esquimalt, British Columbia, or Naval Fleet School Atlantic in Halifax, Nova Scotia, for approximately five weeks. Training includes topics such as performing general duties in the naval environment, performing as a member of the force protection team, performing as a member of the damage control organization, and carrying out survival drills.
Weapons Engineering Technician Training
Weapons Engineering Technicians will attend academic training at Naval Fleet School Atlantic in Halifax, Nova Scotia, before proceeding with application training. Application training can be completed either in Halifax, Nova Scotia, or Esquimalt, British Columbia.
Available Specialty Training
Weapons Engineering Technicians may be offered the opportunity to develop specialized skills through formal courses and on-the-job training for topics such as side scan sonar operation, video conferencing terminal maintenance, high-reliability soldering, explosives safety inspection, and fibre optics.
Required Education
The minimum required education to apply for this position is the completion of the provincial requirements for Grade 10 or Secondaire IV in Québec, including Grade 10 Applied Math and a Physics course at any level.
Direct Entry Plan
Ideal candidates will already have a diploma or Red Seal for a related civilian trade. If you already have a university or college diploma, the CAF will decide if your academic program matches the criteria for this job and may optimize your progression following basic training.
