About This Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Support Professional to join our team at TD Insurance. As a key member of our legal support team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional support to our lawyers and ensuring the smooth operation of our legal department.


Main Responsibilities
  • Document Preparation: Prepare and edit complex legal documents, including correspondence, factums, motions, and summonses, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Standard Document Drafting: Draft standard legal documents, correspondence, and pleadings for review by lawyers, exercising initiative and judgment in their absence.
  • Calendar Management: Manage lawyers’ calendars, scheduling appointments, coordinating appearances, and resolving scheduling conflicts.
  • Telecommunications: Answer a wide variety of telephone inquiries based on knowledge of cases, exercising good judgment and discretion.
  • Correspondence Composition: Compose complex, non-technical correspondence, ensuring clarity and professionalism.
  • File Maintenance: Establish, maintain, and revise lawyers’ files, ensuring accuracy and organization.
  • Research and Document Preparation: Perform research, review, and prepare documents in accordance with project objectives and in consultation with lawyers, law clerks, or legal office managers.
  • Training and Development: Provide training to legal assistants and answer technical questions, exercising initiative to propose and develop standard office precedents and procedures.
  • Additional Duties: Perform additional duties as requested, including reception relief, maintaining lists of witnesses, subpoenas, and fees, and requesting fees for payment from the claims department.

Requirements
  • Education: College diploma in legal secretarial and 5+ years of litigation experience.
  • Skills: Ability to proof and edit legal documents, motivated self-starter with capability to work productively under pressure, excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal and client service skills, professional and positive demeanor, superior organization and priority setting skills, strong work ethic, and ability to multi-task.
  • Software: Intermediate MS Office skills, knowledge of standard office equipment, and word processing.
