About the Opportunity

We are currently seeking a highly skilled Senior Commercial Surety Claims Specialist to join our team in Toronto, Calgary, or Vancouver office. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing claims within the Surety and Warranty lines of business.

Job Description

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction law, with a minimum of 2+ years of experience specializing in this area. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Claims Management: Reviewing, interpreting, negotiating, and drafting agreements; responding to principals, brokers, and claimants; litigation management; negotiation of settlements; authorizing payments as required; providing updates and support to the team of surety underwriters.
  • Investigation and Evaluation: Investigating, evaluating, and resolving claims directly and in conjunction with internal and external counsel, claims adjusters, and consultants.

You will also be responsible for ensuring that all claims are handled in accordance with our company's policies and procedures, while maintaining excellent relationships with clients and stakeholders.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess:

  • A degree from a recognized university.
  • Membership in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario or the law society in the location of the respective Trisura office.
  • A minimum of 2+ years' experience in construction law, banking, insurance, or litigation.
  • Surety experience is an asset, as is in-house claims-handling.
  • Fully bilingual in French and English (an asset).
Estimated Salary Range

$80,000 - $120,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
