Job Summary

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Peer Support Worker to join their team at Vancouver General Hospital in Vancouver, BC.

This role involves working as a member of an interdisciplinary care team to provide non-clinical, peer-based services to patients and clients. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with team members, share their own lived experience, and assist patients/clients through their healthcare journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual peer support and peer-based recovery groups
  • Support patient/client recovery through motivational and supportive self-disclosure
  • Promote empowerment, self-determination, and independence through peer mentorship
  • Assist patients/clients in exploration of skill building and community integration

Qualifications:

  • Certificate in a Social Services program and Peer Support Training
  • Two years of recent experience in a peer support role
  • Lived experience with recovery from addiction and/or mental illness
