Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director, Commercial Real Estate to join our team at Royal Bank of Canada. As a key member of our Commercial Real Estate group, you will be responsible for business development and management of a portfolio of commercial real estate clients, with a primary focus on providing lending solutions for low-rise and high-rise residential real estate projects as well as income producing real estate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of high-value Real Estate clients and deliver on financing requests to assist with income producing real estate, predevelopment, land servicing and construction costs for low-rise and high-rise residential projects, including large, complex syndicated transactions.
  • Oversee loan structuring and maintain responsibility for quality of credit underwriting, while mentoring and coaching Associate Directors in deal structuring, negotiation skills, RBC lending guidelines, policies and risk appetite, profitability requirements.
  • Proactively maintain the health and integrity of accounts from a portfolio quality management perspective, through long-term strategic planning with clients, maintaining an ongoing sales pipeline of real estate transactions and identifying opportunities where RBC can support our clients through platforms outside of real estate financing.
  • Develop and maintain a strong external network in the Calgary real estate community, including lending syndicate partners, law firms, cost consultants, etc.
Requirements
  • Previous real estate lending experience and a proven track record in sales and business development and exceptional client relationship management.
  • Superior negotiation skills supported by deep industry expertise, excellent credit structuring and underwriting skills, and strong background of project budget and financial statement analysis.
  • Strong computer skills (especially Microsoft Word and Excel), excellent written and verbal communications skills, and the ability to quickly develop a working knowledge of programs and systems employed by the Bank.
  • Motivated proactive thinker with detail-oriented and creative problem solving approach, and ongoing and consistent adoption of the Bank's goals and core values.
