Overview

North York General Hospital is a leading community academic hospital that values excellence and patient-centered care. We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our dynamic team in the Day Surgery, Pre & Post Unit at Site Minor Surgical & Elder Care.

Job Summary

This Part Time Regular position offers a competitive total compensation package, including pay in lieu of benefits, vacation pay, and the opportunity to join the Hospital Pension Plan. As a Registered Nurse, you will provide excellent patient and family-driven care in a supportive and culturally sensitive manner. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of care providers to assess, educate, prevent, maintain, and restore patient health. Your goal is to deliver high-quality care while fostering close relationships with peers across the organization.

Responsibilities

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for:
- Providing direct patient care and education
- Collaborating with healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans
- Assessing patients' physical and emotional needs, and prioritizing interventions accordingly
- Demonstrating clinical competence in surgical nursing skills, including wound care and IV therapy
- Communicating effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals using clear and respectful language
- Thinking critically and making informed decisions about patient care
- Participating in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you must possess:
- A Diploma in Nursing or Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- Physical assessment course completion within the last 5 years
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
- IV Certification
- 2 years' recent surgery/ambulatory surgical care experience, preferably in adult and pediatric/infant day surgery and Endoscopy
- Minimum 1-3 years' experience in Ambulatory care
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
