Environmental Sustainability Medical Director

As a leader in healthcare, Interior Health Authority is seeking an Environmental Sustainability Medical Director to join our team. This exciting part-time opportunity will be based within the Interior Health Region of British Columbia and requires flexibility to travel throughout the region.
About the RoleThe successful candidate will provide leadership and direction to develop, implement, and evaluate the Climate Change and Sustainability Roadmap for Interior Health Authority. This will involve collaborating with the IH Climate Change and Sustainability Governance Committee to integrate medical expertise into the broader climate change discourse, addressing health disparities exacerbated by climate change, and advocating for policies that prioritize both planetary and population health.
This role will also require working closely with counterparts across portfolios, including Medicine, Quality, Clinical Operations, Population Health, and Environmental Sustainability, to establish the functional leadership structure for the IH Climate Change and Sustainability Roadmap. Additionally, the Environmental Sustainability Medical Director will consult with academic and clinical leadership to support teaching and research within the program area.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and represent clinical partners within the IH Strategic Plan and IH Climate Change and Sustainability Roadmap.
- Support IH Vice Presidents (VP) by ensuring that physician-related issues in the respective VP portfolios, specific to climate change and sustainability, are addressed.
- Work collaboratively with VP portfolios on the development and implementation of strategic and operational plans, specific to climate change and sustainability.
- Facilitate the achievement of VPs operational and strategic objectives, specific to climate change and sustainability, through physician engagement.
- Participate on provincial committees as an IH clinical representative, as directed by the CFO and VP Corporate Services.
- Collaborate with the Southern Medical Program and the UBC Faculty of Medicine to facilitate successful achievement of the academic mandate.
- Collaborate with the IH Quality Improvement portfolio to support the education and integration of environmental approaches to improvement projects.
To be successful in this role, you will have strong leadership skills, excellent communication and collaboration abilities, and a passion for environmental sustainability and public health. You will also have experience working in a healthcare setting, preferably in a leadership or management capacity.
CompensationThe estimated salary range for this position is $96 per hour, which is consistent with industry standards for a senior leadership role in healthcare. The actual salary will be determined based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity review.
