Toronto Metropolitan University is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Graduate Assistant to support the Department of Economics.

This is an excellent opportunity for graduate students to gain valuable work experience, develop their skills, and contribute to the academic success of our students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with course preparation, including revising and maintaining course-related materials;
  • Attend lectures and provide academic and technical support to students during classes;
  • Serve as a tutor and lead discussions, promoting active learning and engagement;
  • Coordinate and lead the work of other GAs/TAs, ensuring seamless execution of tasks;
  • Hold office hours to provide individualized support to students;
  • Consult with students electronically, addressing their queries and concerns;
  • Assist with grading, proctoring exams, and invigilation duties as required;
  • Monitor discussion board postings and digital software, ensuring effective communication;

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a Graduate Program in the Department of Economics at Toronto Metropolitan University;
  • Previous evaluation of performance as an Assistant at the University (if applicable);
  • Prioritization based on enrollment year: 1st year > 2nd or higher year;

Benefits:

  • Competitive hourly rate: $47.60 for Master's students and $50.82 for PhD students;
  • Mandatory orientation and training; mandatory online courses on Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Workplace Violence Prevention and Response, Access to Information and Protection of Privacy, Environmental Health and Safety, and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS);
  • Flexibility to work up to 130 hours per semester or 390 hours per academic year;

  • No guarantee of work; Employees shall not receive pay or payment in lieu of benefits when not on assignment;
  • Orientations will be conducted in-person or virtually depending on the course delivery mode;
