Job Summary:

The Salvation Army is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Janitorial and Maintenance Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment for our staff, clients, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform janitorial duties, including cleaning, dusting, and disinfecting surfaces, floors, and equipment.
  • Conduct routine maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs, fixing leaky faucets, and performing minor repairs.
  • Ensure the exterior of the building is well-maintained, including cleaning windows, sweeping sidewalks, and trimming bushes.
  • Restock cleaning supplies and maintain a clean and organized janitor's closet.
  • Respond to emergencies and perform on-call duties as required.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure a smooth and efficient facilities operation.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a part-time position, working 10 hours per week.
  • The work schedule will be set by your supervisor.
  • On-call availability is required.
  • The work environment is typically throughout the building and external grounds.

Qualifications and Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid WHMIS training is a must.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Minimum of three months prior related experience, including general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures.
  • Demonstrated janitorial, housekeeping, and maintenance skills at a professional level.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Professional level of cleaning methods and procedures.
  • Satisfactory communication skills, including the ability to narrate an incident.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work within the mandate of and embrace the mission of The Salvation Army.
