Position Overview:

The Custodial and Maintenance Associate plays a crucial role in ensuring a clean, safe, and sanitary environment. This position encompasses both janitorial responsibilities and maintenance tasks, adhering to established standards and protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

General Duties:

  • Maintain cleanliness across all designated areas, following a systematic cleaning checklist.
  • Conduct thorough cleaning of restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and fixtures.
  • Inspect and dust all furniture as required.
  • Vacuum carpeted spaces and mop tiled floors to ensure cleanliness.
  • Clean exterior windows and glass doors at entrances.
  • Restock cleaning supplies as necessary.
  • Manage waste disposal and recycling efforts.
  • Clear outdoor areas of litter and debris.
  • Perform spot cleaning of walls and baseboards, and ensure glass surfaces are clean.
  • Check and secure doors and windows to maintain building safety.
  • Keep an inventory of cleaning products and request additional supplies when needed.
  • Organize and maintain the janitor's closet.
  • Report any property damage or equipment issues promptly.
  • Respond to emergencies as needed.
  • Safely store and manage all cleaning equipment and supplies.
  • Participate in health and safety training sessions.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned by the Supervisor or Director.

Interior Maintenance:

  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Execute basic painting duties as required.
  • Ensure all interior lights are functional.
  • Repair any damaged furniture as necessary.

Exterior Maintenance:

  • Ensure the building's exterior is safe and well-maintained.
  • Conduct minor repairs to exterior fixtures.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Document incidents and report serious occurrences to the supervisor.
  • Assist in property inspections as required.
  • Undertake other assignments as directed by the supervisor.
  • Be available for serious emergencies on a 24-hour basis.
  • Capable of lifting and moving furniture and equipment.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a permanent part-time role, requiring approximately 10 hours per week.
  • Work schedules will be determined by the supervisor.
  • On-call availability is necessary.
  • Work will take place throughout the building and its grounds.
  • Physical tasks include mopping, sweeping, bending, and lifting.
  • Ability to lift/move items weighing up to 30 pounds is required.
  • Attention to safety is critical when handling cleaning chemicals and equipment.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Valid WHMIS training is mandatory.

Experience and Skills:

  • At least three months of relevant experience in cleaning and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated skills in janitorial and maintenance work.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Knowledge of professional cleaning methods and procedures.
  • Effective communication skills for reporting incidents.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Willingness to understand and support the organization's goals.
  • Adherence to policies and procedures.
