Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Indigenous Cultural Safety Educator to join our team at Interior Health Authority. This role involves leading cultural safety education and training, providing consultation and direction on cultural safety matters, and fostering partnerships to enhance First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples' access to healthcare services.

About the Role

The Indigenous Cultural Safety Educator will participate in the development of an Interior Health-wide education plan and lead the facilitation of cultural safety education and training. As a resource to IH staff, the Educator will provide coaching, mentoring, subject matter expertise, and recommendations on specific questions or issues that arise relating to cultural safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategies to address IH's strategic direction and priorities of the Indigenous Health program's strategic plan.
  • Collaborate with IH colleagues in other programs, other provincial Health Authorities, government partners, Host Nations, Métis Chartered Communities, and the Urban and Away Indigenous peoples.
  • Provide organization-wide training that supports IH's commitment to deliver services in a manner that is perceived by Indigenous recipients and their families as being culturally safe.
  • Act as a resource to IH staff, providing coaching, mentoring, subject matter expertise, and recommendations on specific questions or issues that arise relating to cultural safety.
Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Adult Learning or a related discipline.
  • Three to five years of recent, related experience in coaching, mentoring, training, conflict resolution, and the facilitation of Indigenous Cultural Safety education.
  • Lived or living experience and/or cultural expertise or knowledge of First Nations, Métis, or Inuit peoples.
