Medical Support Specialist for Forensic Psychiatric Care

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Medical Support Specialist to join our team at the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) in Coquitlam, BC.
About the RoleThis is a full-time position that requires the successful candidate to provide high-quality patient care in a fast-paced forensic psychiatric setting. As a Medical Support Specialist, you will be working closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional care to individuals with complex mental health and substance use challenges.
Responsibilities- Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and their families, providing support and guidance as needed.
- Provide personal care to patients, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and assisting with daily living activities.
- Perform nursing care functions, such as monitoring vital signs and reporting any changes or concerns to the registered nurse.
- Respond to emergencies and call bells/alarms, alerting the appropriate healthcare team member and assisting as needed.
- Monitor patient progress and report significant observations to the registered nurse or designee.
- Degree or diploma in Nursing or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Grade 10 graduation and completion of a recognized Nursing Assistant or Care Attendant program, or equivalent.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work effectively with others and deal with challenging situations.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- An estimated salary of $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience.
