Job Summary

Vantage Community Services is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to fill the position of Youth Counsellor - I. This is a full-time, permanent position working overnight shifts from Sunday to Thursday.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain a structured environment that fosters the development of an appropriate level of personal and social functioning for each youth.
  • Be an effective, mature, and appropriate role model for each youth to utilize in their growth.
  • Work effectively with other members of the team in providing a therapeutic milieu.
  • Develop and maintain a therapeutic relationship with youth in the program through the implementation of the Circle of Courage model.
  • Participate actively in supervisory meetings, team meetings, retreats, planning sessions, and designated in-service training as required.
  • Maintain appropriate records.
  • Maintain the upkeep of the group care living space of the unit as applicable, and ensure the provision of a program that fits the requirements of the Licensing Department.
  • Be responsible for a variety of tasks associated with program functioning including meal preparation, cleaning, and transportation of young people.
  • Administer medication according to policy and CAC standards.

Requirements

  • A diploma or undergraduate degree in Human Services such as Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field.
  • Experience in working with young people is preferred.
  • Must have current Standard First Aid/Level C CPR, PIC, IRC, Valid Driver's License, and Driver's Abstract.

Benefits

  • Annual salary range for this position is $36,764 - $46,811, placement on union salary grid based on education and years of relevant experience.
