Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Child and Youth Care Specialist to join our team at WJS Canada. As a key member of our residential care team, you will play a vital role in supporting the well-being and development of our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess, set goals, and evaluate progress of clients in a collaborative and supportive environment.
  • Teach clients to develop socially appropriate relationships through daily routines and activities.
  • Monitor clients' safety and well-being, ensuring their physical and emotional needs are met.
  • Provide behavior management counseling, including one-to-one and group sessions, to support clients in developing coping techniques and adaptive behaviors.
  • Offer emotional support and crisis intervention, including non-violent physical interventions, to clients in need.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with program staff, schools, families, and community stakeholders.
  • Ensure clients' physical needs are met by assisting with personal hygiene and activities of daily living.
  • Administer medications to clients according to established guidelines and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, including statistics, logbooks, and daily activity reports.
  • Perform household duties, such as meal preparation and cleaning, to maintain a safe and healthy living environment.
  • Accompany clients to appointments and community outings, promoting socialization and community integration.
  • Participate in the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Committee to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Operate vehicles safely and legally while transporting clients or on WJS business.
  • Advocate effectively for clients' rights and interests.
Requirements
  • Child and Youth Care Degree or Diploma, or a related field, such as social work or humanities.
  • Minimum of two years' recent experience in child and youth care, emergency shelter, or a related field.
  • Previous experience with trauma-informed practice and behavior management counseling.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and clean driver's abstract with a reliable vehicle.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid, WHMIS, and Food Hygiene and Sanitation certificates.
  • Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Certificate (NVCI) and/or MANDT and Conflict Resolution Certificate.
  • Physician's note confirming suitability, including immunization records and a negative tuberculosis screening test.
  • Prior experience with implementing behavioral interventions and trauma-informed practices.
