Electrical Maintenance Technician

The Government of Prince Edward Island is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce. As part of this effort, we are seeking a skilled Electrical Maintenance Technician to join our team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment and systems in various buildings operated by Housing Services. This will include:

  • Assessing and prioritizing requests for electrical or mechanical repairs/renovations
  • Maintaining and repairing fire alarm systems, HVAC systems, fire sprinkler systems, and other equipment
  • Repairing or replacing outdated electrical service/equipment
  • Maintaining, repairing, and testing emergency power systems, generators, transfer switches, and emergency lighting
  • Replacing defective parts in accordance with applicable codes and regulations
  • Consulting with tenants to arrange for the most appropriate time for completing work assignments
  • Operating grounds keeping tools, such as chain saws, shovels, rakes, and post hole diggers
  • Unloading pallets of supplies
  • Assisting other trades with assigned duties, such as plumbers and carpenters
  • Developing and maintaining a preventative maintenance schedule for buildings
  • Preparing specifications and tender packages to award tenders
  • Inspecting the quality of work and providing feedback to contractors
  • Completing estimates of time and materials required for job assignments and recording keeping
  • Reconciling purchase requisitions with delivery invoices
